Faster than typing. Honest about uncertainty.
Take a picture of your plate. POWR estimates calories, macros, and nutrient detail from the photo. You check it, fix what the camera missed, and save when it matches what you ate. Photo logging is part of POWR Pro, unlimited under fair use. Barcode, search, and typing stay free.
Four steps, all in the open
-
01
Capture
Take a meal photo from the app's logging flow. No special setup, no plate alignment requirements. Pro can take more than one photo of the same plate when one angle hides half the meal.
-
02
Estimate
POWR names the foods it can see and fills a draft entry: calories, macros, micronutrients, and ingredient detail.
-
03
Review
The draft is not the log. Change a serving, swap a food the model misread, add the oil that sat out of frame. Nutrition is reviewable, not a black box.
-
04
Track
The entry you approved rolls into your daily totals, your micronutrient picture, and the coach's read on the rest of the day.
Fast input, controlled output
Typing every meal from scratch will burn you out by Tuesday. AI that you can't double-check earns no trust. We try to land in between: a quick estimate, then your eyes, then the day rolls forward.
A photo is fast, and it is also a guess. It cannot see what is under the greens, how much butter was in the pan, or whether the rice is a cup or a heap. You can. That review step is the point, because the number that counts is the one you approved.
When photo logging fits
Mixed meals, restaurant plates, anything too annoying to build item-by-item while still wanting nutrient depth.
When it doesn't
Packaged foods with a barcode. Single ingredients. Anything where exact label data beats inference.
The camera is one door; the entry is the same
Scan a barcode, search the database, or type the meal in plain language. All three are unlimited on the free tier, and every route writes an entry carrying the same detail.
- Calories and the full macro split
- Vitamins and minerals, with %DV where a reference value exists
- Ingredient-level detail
- The coach's read on your meal, with relevant ingredient information
After it saves, the meal sits in a diary that also holds training, sleep, recovery, body, and cycle. Workouts, heart, sleep, and weight can arrive from Apple Health, so you are not re-entering a session you already recorded. Your data is yours, and it is not sold or used for ads.
